Cat5 UTP ethernet cable consists of multiple twisted pairs, each of which is made of two insulated wires twisted together to reduce electromagnetic interference between adjacent pairs. Compared with shielded twisted pair (STP), Cat5 UTP is not wrapped with metal materials, but only with a layer of insulating rubber, so it is relatively cheap and flexible in networking. Cat5 UTP uses 24AWG (American Wire Gauge) solid core wires, with 4 twisted pairs, and each twisted pair has a different color for easy identification and distinction.
